1. Introduction

The Krebs Cycle, also known as the Citric Acid Cycle or Tricarboxylic Acid (TCA) Cycle, is a cornerstone of cellular respiration. Named after Hans Krebs, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1953 for its discovery, this cycle is the cellular engine that drives the production of energy in the form of ATP.

Cellular Respiration

2. Location and Process

Occurring within the mitochondrial matrix of eukaryotic cells, the Krebs Cycle comprises a sequence of enzyme-catalyzed reactions. It initiates with Acetyl-CoA, a molecule sourced from carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. As it enters the cycle, Acetyl-CoA is transformed through eight distinct steps, culminating in the release of energy and carbon dioxide.

Mechanism

3. The Eight Steps: Krebs Cycle as the Cellโ€™s Music Festival.

Envision each cell in your body as a miniature music festival, with the Krebs Cycle being the main event. Hereโ€™s the exciting lineup:

Krebs Cycle (TCA Cycle)

  1. Opening Act – Citrate Formation: Acetyl-CoA teams up with Oxaloacetate to kick things off, creating Citrate. ๐ŸŽค
  2. The Remix – Isocitrate: Citrate gets remixed into Isocitrate, keeping the energy high and the crowd moving.
  3. Energy Drop – First Oxidation: Isocitrate drops some CO2 and hands over energy to NAD+, creating NADH. ๐ŸŽš๏ธ๐ŸŽ‰
  4. Encore – Second Oxidation: Alpha-Ketoglutarate follows up with another CO2 release and energy handoff, keeping the vibe alive. ๐Ÿ™Œ
  5. Merch Stand – ATP Creation: Succinyl-CoA turns into Succinate, and in the process, we score some ATP โ€“ the festival currency for all the cellโ€™s needs. ๐Ÿ’ต
  6. The Power-Up – Third Oxidation: Succinate upgrades to Fumarate, and FAD becomes FADH2, like getting a VIP pass for more energy. ๐ŸŽซ
  7. Hydration Station – Malate: Fumarate grabs a water molecule to become Malate, because staying hydrated is key, even for cells! ๐Ÿ’ฆ
  8. The Finale – Oxaloacetate: Malate finishes strong, turning back into Oxaloacetate, and the cycle is ready for another round. ๐Ÿ”„
Mechanism Of Krebs Cycle

4. Conclusion:

And thatโ€™s the Krebs Cycle, the never-ending festival in your cells that keeps the energy flowing and the party going. If youโ€™re down for more fun facts or need anything else, just holler! Enjoy the cellular music festival! ๐ŸŽถ. Do like share and subscribe for more such interesting topics…๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ”ฌ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿ”ฌโค๏ธโค๏ธ

What tattoo do you want and where would you put it?

I would prefer not putting one  ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

What tattoo do you want and where would you put it?

Getting a tattoo involves puncturing the skin with needles to inject ink into the dermis layer. While it’s generally safe when done by a professional in a sterile environment, there are risks of infection, allergic reactions, and other complications. But it depends from person to person….I prefer not to do one to my skin

Some prefer it as a sign of love to represent their love or dearest one from generations it’s practised…..that’s what my understanding is๐Ÿ˜…….But I am a person who don’t generally prefer it….I don’t like to prefer hurting my skin๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿคฃ for tattoo….If any one is preffering to doing one..Good luck…๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ™‚

Epigenetic changes can cause Type 2 Diabetes

Audio version of article:

Source:

Lund University

Summary:

Do epigenetic changes cause type 2 diabetes, or do the changes occur only after a person has become ill? A new study provides increased support for the idea that epigenetic changes can cause type 2 diabetes.

What is epigenetics?

Epigenetics Mechanism

Epigenetics is like the conductor of a genetic orchestra ๐ŸŽป, influencing which genes are played (expressed) and when, without changing the musical notes (DNA sequence) themselves ๐ŸŽถ. It’s like a molecular maestro orchestrating gene expression in response to environmental cues ๐ŸŒฑ, lifestyle choices ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ, and developmental stages ๐Ÿงฌ. Epigenetic modifications, such as DNA methylation, histone modifications, and non-coding RNA regulation, act like tiny molecular switches ๐Ÿงฌ, turning genes on and off as needed, all without altering the fundamental DNA sequence!

Epigenetics and Type 2 Diabetes.

Type 2 Diabetes

Discovery of Epigenetic Changes:

Researchers at Lund University have discovered that certain changes in how our genes work, called epigenetic changes, might actually cause type 2 diabetes, rather than just happening after someone already has the condition (Rรถnn et al., 2023).

Implications for Disease Prevention:

This finding suggests that understanding these changes could help us develop better ways to prevent the disease.

Role of Environment and Lifestyle:

While our genes themselves don’t usually change, things like our environment and lifestyle can cause these epigenetic changes, which can affect how our genes function. ๐Ÿงฌ

Association with High Blood Sugar Levels:

The team found specific changes in the DNA of people with type 2 diabetes compared to those without it. Interestingly, they also found similar changes in people with high blood sugar levels, suggesting that these epigenetic changes might be involved in the development of the disease.

Identification of Important Genes:

RHOT1 genes

RHOT1, also known as Rho-related BTB domain-containing protein 1, is a gene that encodes a protein involved in cellular processes such as mitochondrial dynamics, apoptosis, and cell proliferation. It belongs to the Rho family of small GTPases and plays a role in regulating mitochondrial fusion and fission

Certain genes, such as RHOT1 ( Fig. BTB domain 1) , showed these epigenetic changes in people with diabetes and played a role in how insulin is produced.

Potential for Predictive Biomarkers:

Biomarkers

What are Biomarkers?

Biomarkers are measurable indicators, such as molecules or genes, providing information about biological processes, conditions, or treatment responses, aiding in medical research, diagnosis, and disease monitoring.

Examples of Biomarkers:

Blood Glucose Levels:

Glucose is a biomarker for diabetes. High levels might indicate diabetes or insulin resistance.

The researchers hope to develop a way to predict who might be at risk for developing type 2 diabetes based on their epigenetic changes. This could allow for personalized lifestyle advice or new treatments aimed at correcting these gene activities.

Ultimate Goal of Disease Prevention:

Ultimately, the goal is to help prevent type 2 diabetes by understanding and targeting these epigenetic changes. ๐Ÿ’กThese highlighted points summarize the key findings and implications of the study.
